Noriko Morita Harth
Born in Japan, I moved to the United States in 1985. I identify as a Heritage Buddhist and hold Buddhism close to my heart. My journey with mindfulness began while experiencing insomnia, digestive issues, and other symptoms of work-related stress. Deeply moved by the teaching that compassion for others begins with kindness toward ourselves, I changed careers in 2013.
As a Certified Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) Instructor and Certified Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC) Instructor, I have been teaching MBSR and MSC since 2014. I mentor MBSR and MSC teachers, supervise teacher practicums, and teach MSC Teacher Training programs, including Japanese-language MSC Teacher Training in Japanese through the Mindful Self-Compassion Japan Institute.
From 2013 to 2025, I served in several leadership roles at the University of California San Diego Center for Mindfulness, including Program Assistant, MBSR Teacher Training Trainers/Mentors, Managing Director, and Training Director.
Since 2021, I have also taught workshops, MSC Teacher Training programs, and teacher practicums through the Center for Mindful Self-Compassion.
My exploration of mindfulness, compassion, and Buddhist practice has helped me cultivate a more integrated sense of self, honoring both my Japanese roots and my life in the West. These practices continue to be a source of wisdom, resilience, and guidance in my life.
I am passionate about making mindfulness and compassion accessible to all, especially underserved and historically marginalized communities, including Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC).
Since January 2025, I have been participating in the two-year Community Dharma Leadership Program at Spirit Rock Meditation Center, where I continue to deepen my study and practice of Buddhist teachings while sharing these practices across cultures and communities.

Black, Indigenous, and People of Color(黒人・先住民・有色人種の人々)コミュニティに届けていきたいと願っています。
